Sandy Rakowitz was born in New York. She wrote, illustrated and bound her first early reader’s book at eight years old as a class project. As a teenager, she grew up in the suburbs of New York and New Jersey where where she spent as much of her free time as possible at the stables grooming, riding and showing horses on the “A” circuit, and playing with the barn dogs and cats. At school, she would frequently get a pass to the library and read as many horse books as possible. Sandy’s deep longing for connection, harmony and ease in relationships with animals and each another lead her to surrounded herself with those who had horses, dogs and cats while growing up. Before graduating with honors from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a degree in Psychology, she trained horses and began teaching kids and adults the details and art of riding. She became disillusioned with the ‘horse industry’, and traveled abroad. Once home, she was quite ill which prompted a change in diet and lifestyle. She adopted a kitten on a cold rainy night, moved to Vermont, drifted from job to job as she ‘found herself.’ Sandy embarked on a healing journey learning Tellington TTouch, the premise for the magical TTouches found in her books, Centered Riding, and many other self-healing methods. In her search for in depth healing methods, she attended, and graduated from the Harvard of Healing Programs, the four year professional training program in energy and consciousness, the Barbara Brennan School of Healing from 1991-95. Rakowitz opened her private practice with humans, and served as faculty for six years. She continues to translate and practice this body of in depth healing work with animals while weaving together many modalities to assist people and their animals worldwide. The Awaken Training Series (Spring 2015) was her first series of holistic courses published with workbooks and CD’s in Animal Communication, Energy Healing with Animals, and Pet Hospice. Nighty-Night Liza-Loo and Haley-Boo is her debut children’s book. Rakowitz’s insightful book on soothing grief and heartbreak from Pet Loss will be out in the fall of 2015. Sandy lives in the mystical foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with her two horses, the wise and wonderful elder Ibis; the zany princess pony Zoey; the marvelous cat Magic; and the adorable, hilarious kittens: Valor Girl with "Catittude," and Cassia, the petite princess. They love living amidst the Farm Fairies.
