He has worked with some of the most violent and notorious criminals ever to be locked up, including Robert Stroud, Birdman, Alvin Creepy Carpis, and George Machine Gun Kelly. After working as a prison guard on the island he transferred to the United States Custom Service and worked there for 36 years where he retired as a Customs Inspector Supervisor.
