Did you know that every vowel has two sounds? Remembering when to use the correct sound can be very tricky and exhausting for beginning and struggling readers. When I decided to write this book I was tutoring my nephew who had been struggling to read since he started formal schooling 3 years ago. Not being his formal teacher I had to make all of my observations from our family time together and during our weekly bible school lessons. During my observations I begin to notice that he was having trouble with a number of phonological and phonemic awareness skills. After assessing him with The Road to Reading program which utilizes research-based, multi-sensory teaching techniques shown to be beneficial for struggling readers. He tested up to lesson 4 which is titled Vowel Power designed to assist him in isolating medial short vowel sounds and identifying the letters that represent those sounds.
