PreSchool-Grade 2 --Trick-or-treating can be very tricky sometimes. Dressed in their Halloween costumes as a duck and a bear, Honey and Sonny Bunny have a hard time convicing their neighbor that they are really rabbits. Mr. Owl refuses to hand over the goods (a bunch of carrots) until the pair can prove their bunnyhood. But after an impressive display of hopping, doubtful Owl concludes: "You could be frogs dressed as bunnies. Frogs hop, too, you know." Younger children will enjoy this funny Halloween story, and laugh at Owl's stubbornness. The expressions on the animals' faces (suspicion on Owl's, dismay on the bunnies) add visual humor. The soft pastel watercolor pictures are large and simple in composition, making this a good holiday storytime selection. --Ruth Smith, Chicago Public Library
