Lieferung des Rheinischen Stadteatlas gewidmet: Die heutige nordrhein-westfalische Landeshauptstadt Dusseldorf, 1288 zur Stadt erhoben, war ab 1511/21 Hauptresidenz der Herzogtumer Julich-Kleve-Berg sowie der Grafschaften Mark und Ravensberg. Nach 1794 des Residenzstatus beraubt, gewann die Stadt ab Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts im Zuge der Erschliessung des Ruhrgebiets als Industriestandort und Verwaltungszentrum neue Bedeutung. Die Freiheiten Angermund und Monheim wurden im Spatmittelalter Amtssitze. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert entwickelte sich Angermund zu einem Wohnort fur vor allem burgerliche Schichten in Nahe der Grossstadte Dusseldorf und Duisburg. 1975 wurde Angermund mit Dusseldorf vereinigt. Monheim stieg seit Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts zu einer wichtigen Industrieansiedlung auf. Den wirtschaftlichen Strukturwandel hat die Stadt durch Ansiedlung zukunftstrachtiger Unternehmen und Investitionen in Infrastruktur und Stadtbild zu meistern verstanden. Artikel-Nr. 00089843258
