Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. SIGNED ON THE BOOKPLATE OF SF CRITIC D. DOUGLAS FRATZ - MARTIN'S GOTHIC MISSISSIPPI VAMPIRE CLASSIC A signed association copy of George R. R. Martin's acclaimed Gothic vampire novel, widely regarded as one of the finest supernatural historical novels of the late twentieth century. Signed by Martin on the personal bookplate of influential science-fiction and fantasy editor, reviewer, and publisher D. Douglas Fratz, the volume carries strong association appeal within speculative-fiction collecting circles. Set along the Mississippi River in 1857, Fevre Dream combines atmospheric historical fiction with vampire mythology, following worn steamboat captain Abner Marsh and the mysterious Joshua York in a dark partnership shaped by ambition, blood, and survival. Long before A Song of Ice and Fire, Martin demonstrated his gift for blending rich historical texture with moral complexity and supernatural menace. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Black paper-covered boards with metallic spine titles. Octavo format. Hardcover with original dust jacket. Book Club Edition with gutter code '010.' Signed on D. Douglas Fratz bookplate. CONDITION: No flaws or blemishes beyond minimal shelf handling. Appears carefully preserved and still gift quality. Dust jacket clean and bright. Signed by George R. R. Martin on the personal bookplate of D. Douglas Fratz. From the Fratz collection. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE - Before Game of Thrones transformed popular culture, George R. R. Martin built his reputation through darker, genre-crossing works such as Sandkings, The Armageddon Rag, and the widely admired Fevre Dream. Set aboard the steamboats of the antebellum Mississippi, the novel reimagines vampire fiction through the lens of Southern Gothic realism, blending supernatural horror with the brutality, ambition, and moral contradictions of nineteenth-century America. Rather than drawing upon European castle traditions, Martin places vampirism within the decaying river culture of the American South. This copy's association to influential SF critic and editor D. Douglas Fratz further roots it within the world of late twentieth-century speculative-fiction culture. While Book Club Editions are common in the market, signed copies associated with major science-fiction figures remain notably less common. Fevre Dream has become increasingly collectible as Martin's reputation expanded globally through A Song of Ice and Fire and related adaptations. SUBJECTS: George R. R. Martin, Fevre Dream, vampire literature, Southern Gothic, Mississippi River fiction, D.
