The same tribute of gratitude is due to another benefactor, now in Eng land, whose name, the writer regrets, cannot be given without his permis sion. This much the author presumes to say of his patron, that it was by his offer of a prize for a Marathi essay many years ago, that an impulse to the literary labours of the writer of these lines was first given. Had it not been for two liberal donations from that gentleman, and the regular contributions of the Glasgow Students' Association, this work would proba bly not have seen the light of day, at least not so soon.
