The focal Operating system has been Unix, a proprietary operating system of at&t. By the end of 1987, there were 600 000 Unix installations worldwide of which 256 000 were added in 1987 term vendor's computer somewhat loosely to denote both the vendor's hardware and software necessary to provide the interface with applications.
