Illustrations have been drawn from some ancient writers, after careful perusal of their text. My leading view has not been suggested by any preceding writer on the same subject nor am I aware that the same ground has been taken, except most incidentally, by any other. Nothing has been advanced here without careful examination yet sabse quent research may disclose much that is imperfect and, on any accessory and subordinate points, none will be more thankful than myself to receive fuller information.
