Is possible with their help to find in a few minutes the potential, current and power, at any point of an alternating-current line conductor of known constants and terminal conditions; whereas the same problem, to a like degree of precision, without aid from these functions, and by older methods, would probably occupy hours of labor and cover several sheets of computing-paper.
