New Bedford, in 1913 a city of approximately population, is located 57 miles southeast of Boston, at the mouth of Acushnet River, where it broadens into Buzzards Bay. The city is attractively situated and occupies a particularly favorable position commercially, extending along the west bank of the Acushnet River for a distance of ioi miles and having unusual dockage facilities.
