Excerpt from The Story of the Engine: From Lever to Liberty Motor
The chapters which follow are devoted to a rather full discussion of steam and other heat engines - so far as this can be done without employing the higher mathematics. The Liberty Motor is fully discussed as a crowning example of mechanical achievement. The final chapter is devoted to oil-engines and an ex planation of the principle of the Diesel engine.
Of the one hundred and sixty-four illustrations, all but five have been drawn by the author especially for this book. The frontispiece is reproduced, by per mission oi the United States War Department Air Ser vice, from a photograph of a Model A Liberty Motor.
Figures 109, 110, 111, and 112 are reproductions of drawings kindly furnished by the Westinghouse Elec tric and Manufacturing Company, of Pittsburgh.
