The desire never developed into a hobby, and was only pursued as chance occasion offered, and as a side issue of a more serious attempt at book collecting, a pastime more dangerous and insidious both to the pocket and the temper.

I did not realise that I had unconsciously succeeded in forming a not unimportant collection until Mr Vaughan one day descended on my library and spied the land. I gratefully accepted his aid he has attached a value to the collection which it would not otherwise possess, and has further increased that value by adding many rare plates from his own collection.
