Excerpt from Adjusting and Repairing Violins, Cellos, &C: A Practical Handbook for All Players

It was purchased from a well-known London firm by one of my pupils for the sum of six guineas - not a high price, but still sufficiently high to demand attention. The tone on the bass strings is something like that which would be produced by a matchbox, While the A string is shrill and squeaking.
