Were there nothing elfe but a bare permifiion of Divine Providence as to thefe things, we could not reafonably think, but that God muft needs bevery angry with us,when he fufiers two fuch dreadful ca lamities to tread almoft Upon each others heelsg that no fooner had death taken away fuch multitudes of our inhabitants, but a Fire followsit to confume our habitations. A Fire, fo dreadfnll in its appearance, in its rage and fury, and in all the difmall confess quences of it (which we cannot yet be fuificiently a p rehenfive of) that on that very account we may in ly lie down in oarjhaue,aad our outfit/yon cover an: Lam. Becaufe God hath covered the daughterof Sim with a cloud in hit anger, and cafl downfrom heaven to earth the beauty oflfrael, and rememhred not hirjbot/faolz'n the day of his anger. For fuch was the violence and fury of the flames, that they have n0t only defaced the beauty of the City, and humbled the pride and grandeur of it 5 not only fiained its glory, and confumed its palaces; but have made the Houfesof God themfelvesaheap ofruines and a fpeflacle of defolation.
