Contrary to watts, Mendeléeff in,his Principles of Chemistry 3rd. Ed. Vol. 2 (1905) p. 336 states that if Maoz or any lower oxide of manganese is heated with an alkali in the presence cf air, the mixture absorbs oxygen and forms an alkaline manganate of green color, according to the equation.
