Monte Castello nella Val d' Era, per distinguerlo da altri luoghi omonimi, sorge su un' alta collina, a 6 chilometri circa a se. Di Pon tedera, e fu uno dei tanti piccoli comuni, di cui era ricca la Toscana. Il più antico documento noto, ovo esso si trovi nominato, è una carta del 1119 citata dal Repetti.
