BY including in this German Reader poems, historical writings, and forms qt correspondence as well as tales, legends, and romancefs,' the author has hoped to make a commehensive book that shall be no less useful than enter taining. Thanks to the number of writers and the dif ferent styles represented, the book provides for the student a variety of interests and gives him, also, an extensive vocabulary and a familiarity with different kinds of liter ature. The Reader may be taken up early in the course and may be used in connection with the study of German Grammar. The reading material should prove sufficient for a reasonably full year's work.
