Excerpt from Special Senate Investigation on Charges and Countercharges Involving, Secretary of the Army Robert T. Stevens, John G. Adams, H. Struve Hensel and Senator Joe McCarthy, Roy M. Cohn, and Francis P. Carr, Vol. 67: Hearings Before the Special Subcommittee on Investigations of the Committee on Government Operations, United States Senate, Eighty-Third Congress, Second Session, Pursuant to S. Res. 189; June 15, 1954
The Chair would like to welcome the guests who have come to the committee to see one of the closing sessions of the committee hearings, we hope. In all events, we are happy to have you here to watch your Congress in action, and the Chair wants to remind you of the stand ing rule of the committee which is to forbid any audible manifesta tions of approval or disapproval, any applause, any other audible manifestations. I have asked that the uniformed members of the Capitol Police force take extra precautions today and that the plain clothes people scattered in the audience among you also carry out the admonition of the committee today to remove immediately from the room anyone who in any way violates the standing order of the committee.
We welcome you as our guests. We expect you, of course, and as sume that you will comply with the rules of the committee. If for any reason you elect to violate them and are escorted from the room, it is virtually at your own invitation.
With that understanding, I am sure we are going to continue to have the splendid cooperation which has marked these proceedings throughout, with but a very few exceptions.
