Some of the results of the inquiries are so un satisfactory, that either the Act has been improperly interpreted, or it Will be necessary to have fresh legislation on the subject, of a more stringent character, capable of putting down with a strong hand the disgraceful conduct which has, in some of the cases, been exhibited by the agents of the candidate or by his supporters.
