It remains for me to express a few of the most prominent obligations which I have incurred in the preparation of this little book. For the glossary I have naturally made constant use of the new bosworth-toller 'anglo-saxon Dictionary,' also of Mr. Sweet's 'anglo-saxon Reader,' the glossary to which contains an excellent selection of words. Grein's monumental Sprachschatz der angelsachsischen Dichter' has also been of the greatest service, especially with reference to the poetical passages in the Chronicle.
