Tobacco has been a very important crop on the limestone soils of Pennsylvania, Where a dark, heavy cigar wrapper is produced, of the same general type as the Cuban leaf. When dark cigars are in style, our domestic supply of wrappers comes mainly from these heavy lime stone lands. When light-colored cigars are in demand, as at present, the domestic supply comes mainly from the lighter loamy soils of Penn sylvania and from the light sandy soils of the Connecticut Valley.
