The names throughout this work are arranged with reference to the alphabetical spelling of the christian as well as the surname - as nearly as may be - and due regard has been paid to the proper orthography of the names, although compelled frequently to receive informa tion fl'om persons ignorant, not only of the proper spelling, but of the name of the occupant of the house, as well as his business and its location.
