The imprint left by John Coltrane upon the sound and vocabulary of Jazz is yet be surpassed. Growing out of Bebop, Coltrane, along with collaborators and mentors such as Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, moved to simplify the unnecessary complexities of Jazz, leading to the birth of the Cool style.
