OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is a new technique for examining medical students and junior doctors. Essentially it involves candidates tackling a series of situations in a problem-orientated manner. For example, these may be an x-ray and some clinical examination results from a patient, a piece of equipment that the candidate must describe how to use, or a pathology specimen that is unclear, etc.

The book will aim to test the candidate s competence in history taking and physical examination; factual knowledge; interpretation of laboratory reports; recognition of pathological conditions (from photographs and presented symptoms and signs); ability to formulate differential diagnosis; counseling; clinical problem solving; prescribing for given conditions and adverse drug effects.
Most of the questions involve a clinical scenario including photographs of various pathologies, instruments and laboratory reports, X-rays and charts (antenatal, labour partograms and infant charts). The answers appear at the end of each section.
