The advances made in immunology during the last few years have enabled the medical profession to put together most of the jigsaw-puzzle representing the response of the body to the allogeneic "passenger" leucocytes present in transfused blood. Many different strategies, including filtration of the blood and platelet concentrates, have been developed to reduce the numbers of leucocytes tranfused and to avoid, or at least ameliorate, their undesirable effects. This book is the published proceedings of the International Workshop on the Role of Leucocyte Depletion in Blood tranfusion practice held recently in London.
