Written in co-operation with Inmos International (the company which created Occam), this book aims to give a comprehensive introduction to the latest version of Occam, a computer language specifically designed for fault-tolerant parallel processing. Occam is rapidly being recognised as a solution to the problem of programming concurrent systems of all kinds, and as a powerful and expressive calculus for describing concurrent algorithms. The language has a special relationship to the Inmos Transputer, which executes Occam programs more or less directly.
