"YWES" is an annual which aims to cover for a given year all work of quality in English studies. Each issue contains critical notices of some 1500 books contributed by 50 international experts, including extensive coverage of English Language, Literary Theory, American Literature and New Literatures in English (African, Australian, Canadian, Caribbean, Indian) as well as "English Literature", compactly in one volume (with seperate coverage of literature from New Zealand and the South Pacific). Coverage of specialist periodicals makes its bibliographical references alone invaluable, while comprehensive indexing - by critic, by author and by subject treated - provides quick and easy reference. A listing of books received for review, giving bibliographical details of all publications received up to approximately a month before the volume is published appears, along with listings, by period, of best books and articles reviewed, Notes at the end of each chapter in a single alphabetical list by author, are also useful for rapid reference and an overview of books reviewed on a given subject or period. "The Year's Work in English Studies Volume 69" also announces the winner of the Beatrice White Prize for the best article reviewed on literature up to 1550. ISBNs are listed for all books reviewed giving librarians all the ordering details they need. Pagination of all periodical articles, and volume numbers of all journals also appear.
