Broadcasting in South Africa examines the history of the broadcast media, both radio and television, in enhancing and creating the "general affairs" and "own affairs" cultures required by the National Party for their continued dominance. The book examines struggles within the South African Broadcasting Corporation, the reasons for and content of TV2/3, the role of soap operas in ideological legitimation and the way in which broadcasting technology has been shaped for political ends.
