"Overall, "Neue Horizonte" is the most satisfying textbook we have ever used. It has always provided a well-balanced introduction the German language. The authors have also succeeded in keeping the text up-to-date with respect to the socio-political changes in Central Europe. "Neue Horizonte's" eclectic method provides a wide range of instructional tools. The authors have made a conscious effort to contextualize the content as much as possible, including oral and written practice. The pre-reading strategies, concise grammatical explanations, and repetition of topics covered are laudable.""The 'Almanach' provides excellent cultural background information in English.""The color pictures, sketches, graphics, and other pictorial inserts not only enhance the appearance of the text, they also stimulate the students to verbalize and create a more relaxed learning ambience.""The authors deserve to be complimented, though, for introducing Literature through lyrical selections from the very beginning. Students really enjoy reading and understanding "mature" original texts, especially at an early stage. It gives them a considerable sense of satisfaction and diverts their attention from the drudgery of grammatical practice. It really makes the introductory phase much more meaningful to them."
