Inhaltsangabe

First Frosts of Fall is a novel about a lady from New Mexico who grows chiles. She's more than just a grower of chile plants; she's a true officianado, an expert on chiles and how to use them. She meets Cletus Duhon, and they end up falling in love. Not far into this late life romance, she tells him that she has terminal cancer, that she's running out of time. Her plan is to get in one last chile crop, and Cletus, accompanied by his long time companion and ranching partner, go to New Mexico to make sure she gets her wish. In doing so, they are forced to deal with a neighbor rancher intent on destroying the chile fields. Cletus and Bubba go to war with the bad guys in a most unorthodox and humorous way. Although Clutus' love affair with the lady farmer ends sadly, this is not a morbid story. It is about something that affects us all because everyone must deal with dying and death. All that is born must die, and there is no avoiding it. How we deal with death is considered here, and in doing so, Cletus offers his ideas on how it affected him and how he dealth with it. Although sad at times, this story is also uplifting. And as always, Cletus tells the story in his characteristic down home, folksy style.
