From the "Impact" homework programme comes this book which contains practical, photocopiable activities to entertain children during the school holidays. This programme has been devised by the University of North London to encourage parental involvement in the teaching of their primary children. It includes activities with specific writing and language aims for Key Stages one and two. Each activity is illustrated and includes a note to parents explaining its purpose, plus a reply slip to be completed and returned to the teacher. The book is designed to give children interesting and stimulating games and tasks for exploring reading and writing at home or on holiday. They provide concepts in which letter and word recogition, spelling patterns, and exploring relationships between sounds and symbols can be practised and reinforced with fun. Explanatory notes are also provided for teachers in this book, and the writing activities can be used by teachers for homework assignments. The book includes links with the National Curriculum as well as notes on the relevance of the activities to the Scottish and Northern Ireland English language programmes.
