Grade 2-4-- The intense competitiveness between new classmates Peanut (Polly Butterman) and Jilly (Jillian Matthews) is driving their teacher, Miss Kraft, "to distraction." She assigns the girls an appropriate research project--to observe and interview each other and write a report as though each was the other person. The emerging friendship, based on respect and admiration, highlights this fast-paced, realistic story. This transitional chapter book has a few charcoal/pencil illustrations interspersed with the text.
