Inhaltsangabe

Fans of Mary Oliver may enjoy this book born from watching the delight of an elderly couple towards the earth and each other as they fell on their knees in excitement at spotting the tiniest wildflower. It was the very definition of love. In difficult times it is the little acts of often unanticipated kindness, or the gifts from the earth, like a crane returning, or an endangered species making a comeback, an apple, or a farm animal or pet nuzzling your hand which often bring us back from our despair. These poems are a response to various physical and emotional pains, but are ultimately an invitation to see and respond with more compassion to each other, to ourselves, and to other species.

Most of this book is also inspired by locations in Wisconsin, including the Lake Superior shoreline. Like Oliver's works the book features open-ended encounters with the natural world, reverence for the littlest of things and creatures, praise for pain, and juxtapositions of love through, or in-spite of hurts.
