Spelling GOD: A Celebration of G, O, and D: Volume 1 - Softcover

"Spelling God" is a one-of-a-kind children's book written by speech-language pathologist and first-time children's book author, Dr. Harvey J. Gardner. "Spelling GOD" is intended to entertain, inform, challenge, and inspire with engagingly illustrated mini-stories using child-friendly pedagogic techniques, presented in spiritually rich and often humorous rhymed phrases linked to "G," "O," and "D." The text would have been bland indeed, had it not been brought to life by Elliot Ward's inspired, whimsical, and heartwarming illustrations, in which all the children are the color of water while all else is richly hued. Readers are invited to heed the call printed on the robin-towed sky banner at the top of the book's cover: "Each of the letters in 'Spelling GOD' tells tales that few have heard. / So open wide, explore inside, and find God's wonderful word."

During Harvey J. Gardner's 56-year career as a speech-language pathologist, he experienced the power of reading children's books with the many preschoolers referred to him for speech & language therapy. After graduating with B.A. and M. A. degrees from Brooklyn College, he attended Ohio State University where he earned his doctorate. He taught at Adelphi and Hofstra Universities and, for 43 years, was Director of the Huntington Hearing & Speech Center (Long Island, New York). He retired in 2009 to pursue long-planned creative projects. Although "Spelling GOD" is Harvey's first children's book, he authored "Stuttering Therapy Step-by-Step" and many professional articles. Over the years he has written numerous poems, essays and stories and has been an avid photographer since the age of 17. Marjana (pronounced Mar-yana), Harvey's wife and muse, is a retired nurse involved in spiritual healing, gardening, sewing, and nutrition. "Biltmore," their home in Oro Valley, AZ (15 miles north of Tucson) is in Sun City Oro Valley, a retirement community, where they enjoy folk dancing, poetry, photography, outings into the surrounding Sonoran desert, and an active social life. Harvey has two sons: Nick, a graphic designer and avid gardener; and Tony, an advanced computer programmer and gifted musician.
