It is astonishing that there has been no in-depth critical work on one of the great post-war British playwrights: David Hare. Professor Richard Boon provides such a book; with a rigorous analysis of work to date and many new interviews, including one with the playwright specifically for this book. With the increasing study of this major playwright, whose work attracts the very best of acting talent, this book is a timely publication for student and interested theatre-goer alike.
Richard Boon is Emeritus Professor of Drama at the University of Hull, UK, and formerly Professor of Performance Studies at the University of Leeds, UK. He is the author of Brenton the Playwright (Methuen, 1991), About Hare (Faber, 2003) and is co-editor, with Philip Roberts, of Faber's About...; the Playwright and the Work series, which also includes volumes on Beckett, Friel, Stoppard, Churchill, Kane, Pinter and O'Casey.
