This T&T Clark Study Guide introduces both the text of Genesis 12-50 in itself and also the methods and issues of interpretation that relate to it. Historical, literary, and theological approaches are all exemplified and appraised for their ability to enable better understanding of the text. Consideration is given to the differences that Jewish and Christian frames of reference might appropriately make to reading the text well. The famous story of Abraham's near-sacrifice of Isaac in Genesis 22 receives special attention as a case study. Some guidance on commentaries and other further reading is also given.
