Overall, this is an excellent text, with clear discussions of recent developments in growth and business cycles. The author is a leading researcher in dynamic macroeconomics, and his interest and expertise in this topic come through clearly in this book. I liked the extra detail on historical developments of the subject and the emphasis on the interpretation of real world data. Farmer addresses a problem that has grown more serious over the years - the macroeconomics that we teach undergraduates bears less and less resemblance to the macroeconomics that we teach graduate students, and indeed the macroeconomics that we practice ourselves.
