Adult Friends for Youth not only talks the talk, they walk the walk. They are actually involved in the trenches with these youth. AFY can be relied upon not only by law enforcement, not only by our community, but especially by schools and principals to do great work in turning lives around. They reach these youth before violence occurs. They mediate between groups and simmer down situations that would have erupted in our communities. There was an event of which I was aware in 2006 where gangs from two high schools were about to face off. They were even ready to square off with law enforcement. We believed a conflict was imminent. If the angels at AFY had not intervened at the 11th hour, just in time, and pulled those kids out of the area, I'm sure someone would have gotten seriously injured and maybe even killed. This is an example of the great work of the heroes of this organization. They've saved lives in our community.
