Grade 7-10 Dunbar's slim manual should fill a real need for most school libraries. It is basic enough for novice debators, and will also be useful to social studies students. Organization is excellent. Dunbar begins with a chapter on the importance of debate in history, also touching upon its pleasures and benefits. He continues with chapters on such topics as methods of argument and how to prepare for each side of a debate, concluding with a list of 12 possible debate topics and sources. A few black-and-white photographs and reproductions are included; most show well-known political figures debating. Use this book to replace those 20-year-old books on the subject now gathering dust.
