ea. vol: illus. by Patti Boyd. 32p. glossary. index. (Easy-Read Computer Activity Bks.). CIP. Watts. Mar. 1986. PLB $9.40. Grade 4-6 Basic information on computer graphics and word processing. In Looking at Sounds and Music , Holland adequately covers the basics of sound applications of the microcomputer. The principles of sound are clearly explained, with good graphic examples supplementing the text. In addition, there is a clear description of how a speech synthesizer works. Examples of how to generate sounds using the BASIC programming language are included. This is a good first book for sound and music applications of the microcomputer. In Looking at Word Processing , Holland presents basic terminology, with a cursory treatment of applications and some discussion of keyboarding. In the section dealing with software, specialized and keyboarding software is listed but no mention is made of word-processing software. The book presents information in such a generic vein that students will not find it applicable to their needs. Melvin Berger's Word Processing (Watts, 1984) is a better choice. SWZ
