Examining his formation in Italy, first in Bologna and then in Rome, Sabina Frommel focuses principally on Serlio's career in France, where through works such as the residence of Ippolito D'Este in Fontainbleau and the Castle of Ancy-le-Franc, he had a profound impact on French architecture.
