This is a collection of all known photographs, along with a selection of drawings, paintings and sulptures, of the Austrian composer and conductor Gustav Mahler. With photographs of his family, his homes, and the opera houses in which he worked, a view of Mahler and his world is offered. The book traces his life from his childhood and student days through his early years as a conductor, to his eventual success in Vienna where he reigned for a decade at the helm of the Court Opera. Accompanying the illustrations are informative captions and revealing commentaries - including an essay on the historical background to Mahler's life, a chronology of the composer's life, and a listing of all Mahler's musical compositions.
