Abo minable scheme under a firm belief that Government would protect the interest of the emigrant. But, when they found the systemnwas one,:of pounds, shillings, and pence, withoutzany regard being paid to the con 'dition of the misguided victims, those supporters of the measure immediately denounced the plan as cruel and unjust.
