The need of materials for German composition, based upon continuous texts which should afford practice in the use of the actual idioms of the language, has long been felt. The success of the excellent French series devised by Professor C. H. Grandgent of Harvard University has led to the substantial adoption of the same plan, with his cordial concurrence. As suming a foregoing thorough drill in the elements of German inflection and syntax, the exercises are to be used without a dictionary, after the student has made himself so familiar with each original passage as to have an instinctive feeling for its vocabulary and constructions.
