Dr. H. C. Haven, in whose wards she then was, made a careful examination of the heart and lungs, with negative result. The urine showed nothing abnormal. The abdomen was much distended and very tense. It was dull upon percussion everywhere except over the highest point, where it was tympanitic. The cutaneous veins were not die tended, and the liver was not appreciably enlarged. The circumference at the umbilicus was at this time twenty-three and one-half inches.
