No one can realise, till he has had the responsibility of forwarding merchandise, how great is the perplexity arising from the repetition of the same name for townships in ad joining States, or the use Of one name to designate, as often happens, several different parishes or villages in the same State. All this, you have as far as possible obviated, by classifying the States, and arranging all the names of each alphabetically and stating the Township and County in which every village is situated, as well as the nearest Railroad station. This can only have been accomplished at a vast expenditure of patience, labor, time and money, for all which I hope you will be repaid in a business way.
