This line of work in connection with the Freed men's Aid Society was not found practicable, as the introduction of women into the Board of Managers (by the law of the State) would endanger its title to property. Thus failing to secure the needed work through existing agencies, the interest aroused could not be set aside, but public and private ap peals continued to be made. Women were em ployed as missionaries in Atlanta and New Orleans, who for several years were supported by personal gifts.
