Two years ago the author of this little volume launched her barque on the sea of literature, little hoping that She would meet with the success that has so far crowned her labors. From a child it has been my intention, at some time, to publish a volume of poems; but, until Within the past few months, I have thought it would be long before I could accom plish the task. But through the persuasion of many friends I have been induced to give to the public the poems contained in this volume, the most of which have been written during the past year. Whether or not they will meet with a kind welcome, I do not know. I only ask that they may have a place in the hearts of those who love me. If some eye, as it bends o'er these pages, weep in sympathy for her Whose life has been one of sorrow - if some warm heart will long.
