Ing homeward his father's cows. As they neared the top of the hill not far from the old homestead the boy used to stop and look away toward the west where the sun's last rays were painting the sky with a marvelous variety of beautiful colors such as can be seen only in a country sunset, and sometimes his heart almost stood still as he drank in the glorious scene. And then he would wonder what there might be away off there where the sun went down, and resolve in his boyish way that some day he would take a journey to find out. Years passed by, as years always do, and the boy's plans had to undergo many changes, but he never quite forgot the sunset land, and one day there came an opportunity for him to visit it, and this little book is the story of his trip.
